Sydney Craft Week x Lisa Giles
in celebration of the 10th annual Sydney Craft Week, byfreer. is hosting artist Lisa Giles in our Paddington store to showcase the beauty and craftsmanship of re-imagined/recycled fabric and paper art. we will be running two events across Craft Week. details below.
join us on Tuesday 13th October from 4-6pm for an exhibition of her work
join us on Saturday 17th October from 1-2.30pm for a workshop
're-imagined jewels' led by Lisa.
join us to take a deep dive into the offcuts at byfreer. to select your favourite pieces to combine with recycled materials like vintage maps, creating your own unique piece. this workshop allows participants to engage with a folding activity rooted in modular origami, where multiple units come together to a form a larger and more intricate structure that can be used as a necklace or brooch.
by using recycled materials, the creative and aesthetic aspects of the experience are enhanced. repurposing materials empowers participants to experiment with colour and pattern or express personal connections to places and memories. the act of folding provides opportunities for contemplation and meditation, all while delivering the pleasure of creating. these workshops do not require any specific prior skills; what's essential is a sense of curiosity and the determination to embrace the challenges while never losing sight of the intricate, beautiful, and elegant mathematical principles at play.
get in touch here if you have any questions about the event or ticketing. see you there!
